The standard we hold ourselves to

This page describes how Covert Ops DJs is made. It is here so that you can decide how much weight to give anything else on the site.

Publication dates

The date on an article is the date it was published. When a change alters the advice, we update the modified date and say what changed. Cosmetic edits do not reset the date, because pretending a page is fresher than it is helps nobody.

What we will not publish

• Guarantees. Nobody in this field can honestly offer one.
• Filler written to occupy a topic rather than to answer it.
• Anything we would be embarrassed to defend in person.

Bylines

Nothing is published anonymously. A name on a page means somebody can be asked about it later, and that is the only accountability a small site has.

Reo Castellan, Working club and wedding DJ. Reo plays more than a hundred events a year and hauls his own gear to every one of them. He reviews equipment the way he would warn a friend before a gig, not the way a press kit describes it.

Sable Marchetti, Former club booker and promoter. Sable spent eight years booking talent and negotiating contracts before switching to writing about the business side of gigging. She reads a contract before she reads a rider.

Dex Okafor, Producer and mix engineer. Dex builds sets and mixes tracks for a living, and writes about the technical side of DJing most beginner guides skip entirely.

How a draft is built

1. The writer collects what they already know and marks the parts they cannot support.
2. Those parts are checked against a primary source, an operator document, or direct experience.
3. What survives step two goes into the draft. What does not is cut.
4. A second person reads the draft for claims that sound firmer than the evidence behind them.

Where money enters

Some links on this site are commercial. They never buy a rewrite of the surrounding paragraph.

Requests to soften a verdict are declined, and we keep them on file. More than one has become the subject of its own paragraph later.

How we choose what to write

A subject earns a page when somebody has asked about it twice, or when we went looking for the answer ourselves and came back empty handed.

Putting things right

Write to [email protected] with the page address and what is wrong. Factual errors are fixed quickly. If the correction changes the conclusion of a piece, we add a short note at the foot of the page rather than quietly editing it.
